October 17, 2008: C.J. leaves Canada to return to the Republic of South Korea to teach middle school English three days after the Conservative Party of Canada wins re-election with an overwhelming majority government.
October 18, 2008: C.J. arrives in South Korea as Canada deploys troops to Iraq.
December 2009: Jinah Kim and C.J. Koster marry; surrounded by her mother, family and a handful of foreigners - they are wed on a boat on the Hans River in South Korea. C.J.’s family attends via webcam.
January 2010: C.J. and Jinah Koster arrive in Canada to start their lives. Jinah becomes a Canadian citizen and lands a job working for the University of Waterloo as an interpreter for International Korean students. One month before the inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama, as a result of sudden heightened terrorist threats, George W. Bush suspends all civil liberties in the United States and declares an indefinite state of emergency, thereby postponing the inauguration and extending his presidency under a revised Homeland Security doctrine. Virgin Galactic launches the first sub-orbital space flight to the public, the craft is called the VSS Enterprise – the flight is a success.
February 2010: C.J. applies to Teacher’s College; with the shortage of teachers in Ontario following the retirement of the baby-boomers, Teacher’s College is now only a three and a half week course. However, the Harper government has failed to help the economy rebound – despite passing a bill similar to the 2008 U.S. bailout – and teacher’s salaries are now $15,000 a year and include a free Good Life Fitness gym pass.
September 2011: C.J. starts teaching high school English but forgets he is teaching English speaking students and continues to include Korean to English translations in his lessons. Prime Minister Harper extends the Canadian missions in both Afghanistan and Iraq to 2020 and announces his government’s plans to adopt a system of governance identical to the United States: eliminating the House of Commons and replacing it with a House of Representatives. The Canadian Senate remains unchanged; so does its power. Initially the plan is met with contempt by the Canadian public because of its similarities to the American system. Protests are held across Canada but nevertheless, the change is supported by all party leaders except the Bloc Quebecois. The change occurs gradually over the next ten years but becomes effective in the following federal election in which Stephen Harper is ineligible to participate.
July 2012: Jinah and C.J. expect their first child. Using new holographic ultrasound imaging technology by Apple – which has gone through four previous versions – they receive their first pictures of a baby girl. In the October Federal Election, Justin Trudeau is elected as the first President of Canada with 340 electoral votes, sweeping Ontario, Quebec and the Prairie Provinces.
March 09, 2013: Elli Jane Koster is born in an underwater birth, recently covered by OHIP. Sarah Palin becomes a Canadian citizen and takes residence in Toronto as a motivational speaker and women’s rights activist; President Bush, now in his 13th year in the White House, announces an immediate withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Afghanistan and Iraq. 20 minutes later, he announces “April’s Fools!” Facebook becomes the most used site on the Internet with more than half of Canada’s population having accounts. On a related matter, freshmen university students have never lived in a world without the Internet.
June 2014: Jinah is promoted to the coordinator of International student orientation at the University of Waterloo; as a result of advancements in child education technology, Elli Jane is able to read at a fourth grade level by her first birthday. Ryan Seacrest admits in an interview with US magazine that he is gay and that he has been having a secret love affair with Clay Aikin for nearly a decade.
January 13, 2015: C.J. and Jinah celebrate C.J.’s 30th birthday on the William H. Gates Orbital Space Hotel, built by Microsoft. The station undergoes six different redesigns before it is opened to the public.
December 2016: The blogosphere fad begins to fade as holographic technology becomes more and more popular and people are able to holographically record and distribute their works; C.J. holds onto his Blogger account and continues to write daily. O.J. Simpson is paroled on Christmas Day; his first words to reporters are "Ho, ho, ho." President Bush, now in his 17th year and now 70 years old, makes his first televised Google search. He Googles himself.
November 2017: Jinah’s mother, age 79 and now fluent in English after having Samsung’s multi-lingual chip implanted into her brain, moves to Toronto’s Korea Town. The average teenager is now 7’4” tall; at age 4, Elli Jane is 4’2”. Elizabeth Taylor dies of old age. Car bomb violence in the Middle East hits an all time high killing 300 people in one month. As it turns out, a study by the Medical College of Georgia suggests that smoking might actually be good for you.
April 17, 2018: Jinah and C.J. are expecting their second child but choose not to know the sex. Artificial Intelligence is marketed as ‘a housewife’s relief’ and millions of households purchase Rosie, named after the robot on the Jetsons, the universal voice for the A.I. is Rosie O’Donnell’s: a feature that initially causes sales to falter but they rebound when a mute feature is installed; North America’s female obesity fatalities increase as a result.
December 07, 2018: Lucas George Koster is born, 6 lbs, 8 ounces. Survivor airs its 27th season, hosted by a holographic Jeff Probst and in Africa for the sixth time, the show gives a $300,000 prize – its ratings remain steady. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt adopt their eighth child. Chinese scientists find a cure for AIDS.
October 2019: C.J. starts writing his first book; the plot is about …; 980 Canadian soldiers have died since Canada entered the war in Iraq 10 years prior; President Trudeau, in his last term, promises Canadians that the government will honour its exit strategy and troops will be brought home in a year.
